Personally, I think it’s about a couple (possibly married because of how the house changes to being clean to cluttered, and the photos/globe, meaning they might have traveled places with each other) living together who have bad communication which is why the room is called “Quiet Room”, the boy refuses to speak out his feelings, and the girl refuses to see that their relationship isn’t working. Hence the blindfold on the girl and the wrap around the boy’s mouth. The binds might also represent a wedding ring that ties them together.
First Verse and Chorus
The food represents how they feel nothing together. They say it tastes tasteless since they are not attracted to each other anymore. But they still eat it because they both want to stay together. The girl asks “why does it have to be so sad?” because she’s in pain from the emptiness of their relationship. Since the boy isn’t good at expressing himself, he can’t comfort her correctly, just simply saying “you’ll get used to it”. The plants represent the urge to stay together since they constantly care for and water them daily. The see-saw might represent that they’re not on the same page with each other. The legos represent how rocky their relationship is, the train tracks represent that their relationship isn’t on track. As they walk along barefoot, they hurt themselves.
Second Verse and Chorus
The boy seems to have ruined all the plants but when the girl is in the frame she fixes it. I guess it’s like she’s putting effort into fixing the relationship even more. “If only happiness were to repeat endlessly, it would expire soon nonetheless. I already knew that though.” This is the part where I think she realizes they’re not working out anymore. When the boy cries and asks “Why does it have to hurt so much?”, she says to him that “it’s surely because it’s for someone else” meaning that they’re not meant to be, it’s time to move on. Before this, there was a line “The road home was exposed to the sun, and I noticed the ill-feeling of being married for life.” too which goes to my theory they are or are almost married. The balloons represent the happiness and promises that they shared together, but they let them go. I think that because of the line “In the center of gentle, gentle wind carried away were the days of childhood” which might mean they’ve been together for a very long time. The boy passes her a balloon, “Don’t ever forget that promise we had exchanged.” and the girl lets the balloon go. The promises and memories don’t matter anymore. The frame changes and she holds onto a balloon with a smiley face on it, possibly meaning their happiness, then it changes to the boy who pops a balloon. Possibly meaning he’s trying to fix the situation, but there’s no good end for these two anymore. “In the midst of this long, long life, I look to encounter love at first sight at my fingertips. If this is the final night we have, could you properly listen to me? I’ll tell you the truth okay?” might be proof he wants to fix this relationship.
Last verse and Chorus
The girl is having enough of this, so she cuts off the restriction of the boy, “You were never honest in the first place” she says.
Both of their restrictions are finally off and the girl walks off with the boy to the exit. She covers his eyes I guess so she can’t see the pain in his eyes? Or to blind him from the pain, or to symbolize she was blind at first but now she will enlighten him, whatever you think. The legos are stacked up and not over the place, and the train tracks are finally in place as they walk symbolizing their break up. The girl then finally leaves the quiet room, which is probably the best choice for them.”Are you still here?” he asks. “Wait for me to return”, was her final answer.
Final Thoughts
This song for me means “if you’re in a relationship that’s not working anymore, it’s best you say your goodbyes and save yourself the pain.” It’s an important message many people should know. This analysis of this song is entirely my theory, it can be interpreted in many ways.

honestly, based on my own interpretation, i think that the guy and the girl are siblings with horrible & abusive parents and starts to fall into a state of depression. the first part of the song touches on the subject, where the guy tries to ask for help but it cant be heard and when the guy tries to eat;but everything tastes bland to him. he then sees the girl & she asks him, “why is it so sad?” he replies back that she’ll get used to it soon. they find a sense of solidarity within each other then. i think that “pale darkness” refers to a light within their dark/depressive state. the boy leads the girl to a room (quiet room) and there they spend time w each other as a source of comfort. the flowers could be an interpretation of their happiness. the pots are fallen over at the start but once the other party appears, they start growing well again. the lyrics at this part of the song states, “if only happiness were to repeat endlessly,it would soon expire nonetheless”, afterwards they eat their happiness aka flowers but finds that it still feels like smtg is missing and that they arent truly happy. the girl watches as the boy’s flower wilts in his hand. (the topic of marriage is brought up,this is where i thought that they were the results of an unhappy marriage.) atp he asks the girl why it hurts so much and she replies that it has to be for someone else. i think that this can be interpreted that they had to carry the burden of hatred between their parents even though they werent supposed to. in the next few sentences she mentions that the “liveliness is lonely and rather like a mulberry plantation.” liveliness= an atmosphere of excitement/happiness whereas mulberries can cause hallucinations. so the sentence means smtg like their happiness is mostly shortlived or rather just a daydream. the promise that they were talking about in the middle part of the song shd be whr the guy asks the girl to hold on tight to one another and never let go. the parts in between this scene and the water overflowing scen im not so sure abt. however, ik that the tears causes the cup of happiness to break = the pain is too overbearing that it overtakes the shortlived happiness….
